Certifications are not Licenses
Master Craftsman Academy is a dedicated center for education, aiming to empower individuals with the practical skills and trade knowledge necessary for success in the construction industry. The certifications we provide serve as proof of your ability to accomplish tasks independently, a trait highly valued by most employers.
However, it’s important to note that these certifications do not equate to licensure with any state or governing body. If you’re planning to operate independently, we highly recommend researching the specific guidelines of your local state and county.
For instance, in California, you’re required to secure a license before accepting any work that exceeds a total of $500.00. While not all states and counties uphold the same requirements, each one does have their own set of guidelines that need to be followed.
If you find yourself uncertain about the requirements in your local area, your local building department is a valuable resource. They can guide you on the necessary steps to ensure your operations are in compliance with local regulations.

Subject: Details about Our Comprehensive 13-Month Course at Master Craftsman Academy
Our 13-month course at Master Craftsman Academy is a comprehensive and rigorous program designed to equip individuals with the skills and knowledge to handle most remodeling projects independently. Upon completion, each participant will be certified in all the courses offered by our academy.
This program has been structured to avoid unnecessary repetition. Although there is some overlap in the coursework, individuals will not be required to complete the same coursework more than once. A modified schedule, detailing the sequence and timing of courses, will be provided at the start of the program.
For those who already have a solid foundation in certain areas, we offer the option to test out of a course by directly taking the certification exam. If this is a path you wish to consider, please discuss it with the staff during the first week of the program.
We understand that life can be unpredictable. If any participant needs to take a break from the coursework, they will retain all earned certifications and will have the opportunity to return and complete the remaining coursework at any time. Please note that any remaining costs will be calculated based on the current rates of the courses at the time of return.
This course serves as an excellent stepping stone for those looking to become a General Contractor in most states and counties. With the comprehensive training provided at Master Craftsman Academy, you’ll be well on your way to success in the construction industry.
Employment Guarantee and Terms
At Master Craftsman Academy, we are committed to ensuring the employability of our students. We strive to see each individual who completes a certification program secure local employment. However, our guarantee is subject to standard pre-employment checks, which include both a background check and a drug test. If a student is unable to pass these checks, we cannot guarantee employment opportunities, as most of our partner companies participate in programs that prohibit them from hiring individuals who fail these pre-employment checks.
With your certification in hand, we’ll assist you in putting your resume in front of multiple partner companies. Our goal is to help you secure employment within six months of completing your certification. If you pass your pre-employment checks and we are unable to help you secure employment within this window, we will refund up to $1,000 per certification.
However, please note that this refund policy is only applicable if you meet all required obligations. This means submitting all necessary documentation promptly, attending scheduled interviews, and submitting your resume on time. Once you accept a job offer from any company, you will no longer be eligible for this refund.
In the event that you find yourself out of work in the future, we would be more than willing to assist you in seeking new employment opportunities with our partners. However, we do not offer guaranteed placements in such situations.

Defining Skill Levels at Master Craftsman Academy: Apprentice, Journeyman, and Master
Master Craftsman Academy is committed to fostering individual growth and providing realistic assessments of skill levels. Unfortunately, the construction industry does not universally differentiate between apprentices, journeymen, and master craftsmen across all trades. Definitions are well-established for Plumbing and Electrical trades, but these can also vary from state to state.
We’re dedicated to changing this. Here’s our breakdown:
Apprentices are trade professionals who are still learning their trade. They are typically under the guidance of more experienced professionals and are building their skills towards mastery.
A Journeyman is considered to be a professional who is competent in their trade and able to perform tasks independently. It’s important to note that in most cases, this designation implies being certified, licensed, or working independently under the supervision of a licensed professional or a Master craftsman.
A Master is an individual who possesses an exceptional understanding of the trade, holds a relevant license, and has a minimum of 4 years of qualified experience within the last 10 years. Not all states offer a Master license, with California being a notable example.
Master Craftsman Academy aims to set a new standard in the industry, offering clear and consistent definitions of these skill levels to better guide career progression and professional development in the construction trades.
